Looking for a good M-4 carbine clone not class 3 . . ?

Pondering the S&W M&P15 with the 16" barrel. I really don't have any brand loyalty. Just want a decent weapon that will chamber & run most ammo well and be reasonably accurate. I hear that some high end AR's hare picky with certain loads other than match grade?

I'm considering letting go of an older Pre-ban Colt H-Bar with a 1:7 twist barrel to get an optic friendly varmint version as well. Bushmaster with fluted barrel varmint model?

Excellent - just what I was looking for. I remember years ago when the ban prohibited us registered good guys from owning these and sales were restricted to law enforcement sales only.

Don't sell the lower receiver. Those Colt prebans are nice receivers. I would sell the upper on AR15.com and buy a LMT, Larue or Noveske upper for your Colt lower. The Noveske N4 16" upper is nice. It comes with a mid length gas system so you get smoother recoil and less wear and tear on BCG.

I wouldn't sell the original pre-ban Colt at all...it has collectors value...for heaven's sake don't break up the upper and lower. If you don't want it, sell it complete or trade for exactly what you want. If it were mine I would keep it and buy or built the varmint version.

Here is another source for uppers and lowers: http://www.pkfirearms.com/store/start.aspx

This is a good deal on a Rock River upper:

Rock River Arms Barreled Uppers
Rock River Arms Chrome Lined CAR A4 Complete Upper
Rock River Arms 16" Wilson chrome lined barrel with 5.56 NATO chamber and 1/9 twist rate. Carbine handguards and steel front sight tower with bayonet lug. Flat top receiver. Complete with bolt and forged charging handle.

Our Price: $495.00

Clyde Armory, Colt 6920, In stock and $1270, or LMT SPM16 for $1089 and in stock.

I'd probably go for the LMT as a second carbine purchace. Bought a noveske N4 low profile and they are $1900, but have lots of extras.

I've got a pre-ban Colt Sportster Competition HBAR (first year 6700, 1992) and I just can' t seem to part with it, even though I would prefer another carbine.

Just wondering what a Colt Pre-Ban 6601 H-Bar with a 1 in 7 twist is worth these days to the right collector? Weapon is in really good shape less than 300 rounds. Has functioned flawlessly.

I might guess at least $1200. Check Blue Book of Gun Values, Shotgun News, Gunlist magazine, Gunsamerica, etc. Good luck.

I have a http://www.gunsmokeenterprises.net/ custom made, so it's a little different then the ones listed on their site, you can have them made pretty much any combo made, extremely well made, a lot of the guys in Iraq are using the class 3 version. It's also a local florida business so I got to go out and see the shop!

It has NEVER jammed and I have over 2,000 rounds through it. Extremely accurate, extremely reliable. I will prolly pick another one up soon.

Interesting. Can you tell us the specifications they built yours to? When I see comments on a mfg page that chrome lining is extra when you order an upper, I start to wonder about things like steel type, BCG, etc.
